Happy New Year!
Last semester got off to a great start. We gave out so many books and we look forward to increasing that number as well as granting out money to programs within our community.
Our next meeting will be February 7 at 7pm. This will be a very active meeting and everyone has a place, so please feel free to join us!
We also have some rather great news!
Each year Borders and Waldenbooks partner with First Book. For every dollar made, a percentage is given to First Book. This year's campaign brought in more than 1 million dollars! Of that, each advisory board/campus advisory board has been given a portion allotted through gift cards. First Book- Univ. of Southern Miss has been given $4,000 to grant to literacy programs and schools in the Hattiesburg area.
This time last year, we granted $1,500 worth to Aldersgate, DREAM, and Edwards Street Fellowship. As a group, we cannot wait to approach more programs in our area about receiving these gift cards! This is one of the greatest aspects of our organization, so we are completely thrilled!
